About the Time I tried to See Frankenstein in the Theater…

It was late October or early November. My memory likes to play tricks with things like times and dates, so I have to write everything down. It can be annoying or frustrating to say the least.

Either way, I wanted to see Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein in the theater. I had seen Nosferatu, and I hope to see The Bride and Dracula in the theater when they come out.

Since Netflix was producing Frankenstein, it had a very limited theater run, and only two theaters in western Washington were playing it, and I didn’t buy tickets ahead of time. One theater was sold out, so that made the choice for us.

Time for a short road trip to a place called Monroe, Washington which I hadn’t heard of. Apparently, it is kind of close to Woodinville. The weather was hostile and windy, and rainy and rather foreboding. Honestly, it would have been the perfect weather to go see Frankenstein, except for the fact it knocked the power out.

There was debris and broken tree branches all along the road, and over the Hood Canal Bridge the wind was so strong I felt my little car sway and shake.

When we finally got to the theater, we decided we were a bit early, so we went across the street to a Walmart and decided to buy snacks. That was when the power went out.

Walmart had a generator so we managed to buy our snacks, but it didn’t bode well for the Galaxy Theater. Sure enough, it was out there as well. An attendant that vaguely resembled Andrew Garfield apologized to people. An inflatable spooky house lay pooled on the floor.

We didn’t pre pay, so we just left, and as soon as we made it to the Woodinville AMC where Good Fortune was playing, the power was back on in Monroe. So, we decided to drive the thirty minutes back hoping we could still see Frankenstein.

The attendant tells us the servers are still not up, and then the power goes out again. So, it was a tough call, but I had to give up. I knew it would be out on Netflix in early November, so this was my one and last opportunity.

I finally got to see it on my tv. I honestly can say it is visually stunning, and would have been magnificent on the big screen. Here is hoping it is up for some Oscars, sometimes they give the movies and additional theater run. I may yet get another chance. I enjoyed it immensely, it is still worth seeing of course. But some movies look really good on the big screen. And this would have.

We ended up because of the drive back to Monroe, missing Good Fortune at Woodinville, but catching it at the South Center Mall instead because the time lined up with the way home perfectly. And that movie was fun, and I am glad I saw it. I guess things have a funny way of working out how they are meant to.

What Job Would I Do For Free?

Well, I think writing I do do for free, but do I consider it a job? It is more of a past time at the moment, if something becomes a job it tends not to be fun anymore. In my experience anyhow. I am also a wannabee film critic for free. It is also not a job but something I do for fun. Technically, it costs me money because I will buy a DVD just to have the ability to compare it to another.

I suppose I do both of these for free, or at a cost because I pay for the website. The hope is someday I will get my act together and publish something and I will have a promotion network set up for it, and it will pay for itself. I am not looking to get rich, I just want to do something I enjoy and am passionate about. Movies and books are just two of the more obvious things.

It is a beautiful day here today, and I am writing from a coffee shop just to get out of the house and out of my own head a bit. I need a break from myself.

I am going to see Metropolis later and am excited to do that in a room of other like minded people. I will record a video on that experience later. I am behind uploading them. I have a ton of videos that need to live somewhere.

I have been putting them on twitter just because I have a bigger audience on there and they seem to upload faster. But I am getting disenchanted with the site lately. It is hard to get into social media after the program limits your reach and flags you for being a bot.

Plus, Elon is a constant presence there, and you can’t ignore him either. So, that has made me seriously consider Youtube. But I am such an amateur compared to the people on there. Not sure I can compete there, and I hate starting over from scratch. That is the quandary folks. Start over, or dig in. Not sure what the best option is. I suppose I could do both.

What Makes You Feel Nostalgic?

Watching movies from the nineties makes me feel nostalgic. I just watched Reality Bites. Other movies that are good for this are: Singles, Empire Records, The Usual Suspects, and Four Rooms all make me feel nostalgic. Because I remember them from back in the day. Music will also make me feel nostalgic. I’ll associate music with a time or place, an event or a time period for sure.

Sometimes, walking or driving down a street will make me feel nostalgic. We went to the Regal Cinema in Lakewood, which I haven’t been to in years. And, it reminded me there used to be a twenty-four hour bowling alley with mini golf there. It is gone now, but the sign is the same. It was a bit surreal.

It was like I was transported to another year, but things were also different, so it was more like another dimension. Sometimes I will see a photo, or even a television commercial that will remind me of another time or place. It seems like the older I get, the more likely I am to be nostalgic, the more triggers I am going to have, good or bad, for other memories.

Sometimes someone will say something that will trigger something, or it could be as simple as a random thought in a chain of thoughts that eventually leads to something from the past. I don’t mind feeling nostalgic, but I don’t want to get trapped in the past either. I also want to look ahead to the future. So, I have to be cognizant of that and pull myself out of it sometimes.

An Intro Into My Addiction to Physical Media…Plus James Cagney

So, tell me if you like this kind of content, and if you want more posts on movies, books, or maybe something else entirely. I will try to keep the videos a little shorter. Easier for me to upload, easier to watch.
